MusXchange bootcamps for musicians

This training format involves the selection and sending of a peer-group of 15 musicians of at least 7 project partners to join bootcamps, incubator programmes, or other peer learning activities at a European level.
Under MusXchange 2015-17, there had been two activities under this sub-strand focusing on two important areas in the professional development of young musicians.

The first bootcamp took place in Glasgow in Sept. 2015 and was dedicated to "Audience and outreach skills - Engaging with audiences". The bootcamp was organised under the guidance of experienced trainers of Live Music Now Scotland. The bootcamp was coordinated by LMN director Carol Main. LMN’s vision is “Inspiring musicians – Transforming lives”. The experience was a unique opportunity for providing mentoring and coaching on communicating with audiences, learning about adapting to different audiences at local level, which involves creative programming for various formats, and developing musicians' musical, social, and leadership skills.

The second bootcamp was held in London in Oct. 2016, and dedicated to "Creative Enrepreneurship - How to start your own business". The bootcamp was organised under the guidance of experienced trainers of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in cooperation with Cause4, a social enterprise for developing innovative and enterprising programmes for charities, social and arts companies. The experience provided a unique opportunity for offering mentoring and coaching to a peer-group of musicians and help them develop their entrepreneurial and managerial skills, find their customers and audiences, raise funding and create sustainable businesses. Students attended the bootcamp with their own project ideas and developed their start-ups over three days in a “creative incubator” with experienced coaches.

MusXchange working group meetings for managers

WG meetings are primarily dedicated to train-the-trainers workshops on issues of music training, orchestra management, audience engagement, digital innovation, and the development of project-related strategies and evaluation processes.

In September 2015, two train-the-trainers workshops were offered on “Audience development strategies including the use of digital media", and "Training of outreach skills in pre-professional YOs”. A third topic embraced the “Diversification of public and private funding”. Trainers were consultants of institutions such as Live Music Now Scotland, Culture Republic Scotland, and Arts & Business Scotland.

In October 2016, two train-the-trainers workshops were offered on “Online training and coaching tools in music education” and “Creative entrepreneurship”. Experienced trainers were supplied by the Royal College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Cause4.
